Others Online is designed with your safety and privacy in mind.
- Identity protection -- You can be anyone you want to be, and you only need a username and password to use the service. The only personally identifiable information we ask for is your email address, but at no time do we reveal it.
- Chat and Email -- we broker all communications so that your personal IM and email address is not revealed. When a user "chats you up", we show you the interests you have in common, and you may "block" users at any time.
- Blocking users -- once you "block" a user, you will no longer see each other's profiles, nor will they be able to communicate with you.
- Favorites -- Have a favorite user? Add them to your favorites list and they'll always be there (regardless of matching interests).
- Tabs -- We use tabs to show you people with shared interests globally and locally (within 50 miles of you). Very soon we'll add tabs to show you people within your favorite online communities, such as MySpace, Bebo, LiveJournal, etc. We'll even let users define their own tabs!
- Sign in/out -- When you're signed in, you see others and they see you, but only when your interests match. When you sign out, you're "offline" and the toolbar stops all interaction with our server.
- Profiling -- We analyze the Web pages you view (only when you're signed in) in order to show you the most relevant profiles. The more we know about your interests, the better we'll be at matching you with other users. That said, you have 100% control over your profile. Please note our privacy policy.
- Adult content -- Users with Adult-oriented Web sites will only be shown within the Adult tab, which is only available to those 18 or older.
